I just had my first weekend out of Seoul. Took the bus to Seoraksan, Seokcho, and Gangneung. It was great to be out of the city and see the ocean.

My questions:

Gangneung had nice sandy beaches but I didn't have enough time there and it wasn't warm enough. Is the city worth a weekend trip to the beach? Or are there better beaches in the area (~3 hours from Seoul.)

Can anyone recommend any other good weekend trips from Seoul?

It's only a few hours by KTX to Busan or Gwangju. August is great for swimming, if there are no typhoons around.

Just click on the 'view photos' for each province.

Then click on the individual photo to enlarge. And page number to view more.

Is it warm enough for the beach in Busan during June? (like end of this month..)

Depends on what you're used to, & the weather. It rains a lot late June through until September. They have a sand festival at Hyundae Beach near Busan around this time of year too. It's a bit late for 2009, though.

Sand festival was cool simply because I saw professional sand sculptures for the first time and was very impressed. I stumbled upon it...
