Are my observations incorrect- but- over the years I hear less complaints coming from teachers out of Seoul than in other cities throughout the country?

Just a side-note- which city do you personally like the least?

From the experience of myself and a few other small town ESLers, the benefit of a small town is the reputation the academies need to maintain, that assures the teacher is kept happy.

Ditto the above.
Seoul, Busan, daego, Gwangju and Teajeon are too big. However if the community is smaller than reputation becomes a lot more important. Just make sure you don't get in to small a city as there might be problems with student numbers and/or boredom.

I think you'll hear more complaints on here, coming out of Seoul because
a) most teachers are in Seoul and
b) this board is dominated by people living in Seoul.

Percentage wise, though? Hard to say. I've heard horror stories all over the place. I've lived in a smallish city (Pohang, pop 500,000) & didn't have the best treatment (nor the worst) and I knew a lot of people who got screwed over by their boss & some absoulte hellish situations.

Personally, I think it's a lucky dip (esp in the hagwon system) wherever you go. A small town is not a guarantee of fair treatment.

I much prefer living and working in Seoul than living and working in Pohang. So I'd have to say Pohang is my least favourite city.
