I applied through footprints in early April, had the phone interview (it was successful) , sent in all of my documents, and they have been received by EPIK. I asked my recruiter when I would find out if I had a job or not. He said I would find out in June. Is it fairly certain I will have a position at this point? It seems like the end of June is far off. Has anyone else heard anything about receiving job notice from EPIK?

I was told I would find out in June also. Maybe they want to finish the hiring process before sending out notices?

If you have passed your interview and sent all of the documents in then you are in pretty good shape.

Once EPIK has your stuff your documents have to pass a final review. I have no idea whether or not people get rejected at that stage.

If I understand correctly, in June you will receive a contract from the Provincial or Metropolitan office of Education that you have been hired by. At that point you can be assured that you have a job and go ahead and get your visa and your plane ticket and all that.

If they didn't want to give you a job, you wouldn't have gotten this far, but, you can't be 100% sure until you have the contract in your hands.

I am in the same boat though, so I'm waiting for a contract, but I am veeeeeeery confident that I'll get a job.

Funny considering how the recruiters rush you to get your documents saying how everything is on a "first come first serve basis."

The public schools obviously do wait until the deadlines to evaluate everyone and make assignments.

But the government programs like EPIK reportedly now won't hire any new teachers who are over a certain age - 54, I think.

I'm under a GEPIC contract, and I think the Gyeonggi ministry of education has been pressuring my school not to rehire me again (even though I've been a popular teacher there for five years) because I'm now 60 years old.

Gyeonggi province seems obsessed with replacing North American teachers with South Africans for some reason (perhaps because they have some notion that African village culture is more compatible with traditional Korean culture...)

Ok. I am fairly sure I will get a postion and just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one being told this. My main concern came from the new post on the EPIK website. It says that on may 20th (tomorrow) they will be closing applications for metro areas. I thought this was strange. Why would they say they can't accept any more applications but not tell those selected they have jobs? My recruiter says it's almost certain I will have a job and from what I understand it's unlikely I would have made it this far and not get accepted.

My best guess is that there are a lot of people who applied for big cities like Busan and Incheon who won't get in, and they will have to be given their 2nd or 3rd choice or less, so maybe they can't take anymore applications because they have to deal with people who didn't get their first choice.

Footprints is slow and piddles around like a typical North American employer does. Go through a recruiter in Korea to get fast attentive service as they're the ones best connected to Korea. It's usually a foreigner with his wife or a partnership between a Westerner and a Korean. I used Korean Horizons and it was trying to send me 2 weeks faster than I wanted to go, but it worked out. Footprints dilly dally'd around telling me, maybe you can go if you buy your air ticket first and report back to us so we know how to place you with proper timing and location. Silly.

Recruiters probably get a bonus if they can place a teacher in a rural area.
When they wait till the last minute - they figure a teacher will accept anything. Make sure you keep applying for other jobs at this time. It actually costs the schools - epik, gepik or whatever more - because this last minute stuff means the teacher may have to buy a more expensive plane ticket - no time for shopping around for a bargain.

I still have no word if I was accepted or not. It seems like some people have all ready been accepted by EPIK and my recruiter has not emailed me with any word yet. Has anyone found out if they were placed in the EPIK program yet?

i told my recruiter to get me an interview in about late april. In early may, i got the interview. a few days later on the 7th, i sent in all my docs. Just yesterday, i was told by my recruiter that he has my contract and will be sending it to me on monday. And i was able to get my first choice.

When exactly did you send in your documents?

My docs were received in Seoul on May 14th.

Still waiting on a contract from EPIK.

I'm guessing they have more than the usual number of applications. My first 2 choices were rural areas so I'm pretty sure I'll be ok. But still, the wait is the hardest part.

I'm sure your fine.

They're probably just trying to figure out where to put you.
