I'm thinking of running from my school but the only flight I can get is during the week and departs 30 minutes after I'm supposed to be at work. I'm worried that in this time the alarm can be raised, but can customs or anybody else do anything once I'm through customs and about to board? |

What?
Dude, you can quit at any time including when you are at work. There is no need to do a run. It is perfectly legal to quit a job in Korea. Nobody is going to arrest you or drag you screaming and kicking back to the hakwon.
Nobody can or will do anything...unless you have done something illegal.

Maybe you could call in sick that day if you are worried about it. |

If you are not planning on coming back, then not much will be done. However, if you owe them for your airplane ticket, leave them with lots of bills, then they can file a civil suit against you. If they know that you are running, and you owe them, they can have you stopped. However, if you are leaving 30 minutes after class begins, they might just think that you are sick or late. They will call a few times and by the time they go to your apartment you will already be in the air.
My suggestion, is to work at least 1 week after your last pay period that will cover your airfare if you owe them that. The other thing is I would call and cancel my phone and settle my bills before I ran especially if they are in your name.
I have quit without notice before 2 times. I have also resigned in the proper manner 2 times. I don't fault people for quitting without notice but do think that it is not always necessary. One time I did it was necessary the first time though I regret.
Good luck. |

I left Avalon before 6 months with a 600$ phone bill and other bills. Nothing happened. I was back in Korea 2 months later. |

hagwon.awol
though... |

Proud of that?
Thanks on behalf of all foreigners in Korea for making us look bad (yes, one brush for all here) and harder to get services in our names. |

Not really. I came back and got internet with the same exact company without any knowledge of the old bills. As well as a new phone. Nothing very difficult about it. I learned a lot my second time around. I learned how to get internet, phone and all other services without an ARC. Much better this time around! |

OP, be careful! Ignore all the above advice. These guys are just giving you some bad advice so you'll get screwed over, a bit of a past time at Dave's.
Last time I was taking a flight home...we'd passed customs and I was waiting at the gate. boarding had begun...and we'd all lined up. All of a sudden I hear some commotion in the distance and see 3 guys running towards us. There are two security uniforms and a guy in the silverest suit you can imagine. He said something to the ticketing agent in Korean, I didn't catch everything but it translated to something like "Hagwon Owners Association!, we are looking for ______" and the stewardess at the check in counter motioned him on to the plane.
A few minutes later, I see the 2 security guys dragging some poor whitie off the plane, all the while, the silver suit is ripping him a new one.
Silversuit: "You'll get back in that classroom and you'll teach those kids!, you see this name on your visa? That's my name!! I own you!"
Whitie: "whimper"
Silversuit: "And...for this transgression (not his word, but we'll let it slide) I'm going to dock you 3 month's wages!!
Whitie: "But I haven't been paid for 3 months!! That's why I ran!"
Silversuit: "Ok, we'll call it even then."
And off they went, the two security guys dragging poor whitie into the distance.
So, OP. BE CAREFUL. Don't tell your boss anything. I'd recommend hiring a body double for the afternoon, most whities look the same...so just get someone with the same weight and height...and hopefully gender, and by the time someone works out there is something fishy going on...you'll be in the sky. |
