Hello!
I have a couple questions regarding my E-2 visa and traveling abroad.
I recently re-signed with my current school but have to wait another month to go to immigration since my current contract ends in September. I am not sure of a couple things though.
My ARC expiration date is listed as 2009.09.07 and my E2 Visa is listed as finishing at the end of August (I don't have my passport in hand). I also will be getting a week vacation from my school from Aug 31-Sept 4. I plan to go to the US during this time.
Do I need a new E2 visa? When I go to immigration will they give me a new visa or just put a date on my ARC? Will I need any papers when I return?
Sorry for all the questions. Just finished my first year and I want to make sure that I don't get hassled when I return.
Thanks for the help. |

You don't need a new visa. When you go to Immigration, they will write the new expiry date for your period of sojourn on the back of your ARC. |

Once you have signed your new contract then you can go to immi and extend your arc. You should do this before your first contract ends. Don't waite until the last minute and confuse them with your trip. |

and when you extend, make sure you have a multiple entry permit. It costs 50 000 won to purchase if you need it. Without it, they might not let you back in korea under your e-2 visa when you return from your vacation. that means you will enter as a tourist and will have to go through the whole e-2 process again. |

Just want to re-affirm this point. I had a teacher the extended with us, and didn't get a re-entry... bad news bears. Get a re-entry. The extension costs 30,000, multi re-entry costs 50,000.
When you go to immigration, bring your new contract, the school's business liscense, and sometimes some officers ask for a letter of confirmation of employment. |

Thanks everyone for the help!
So my Korean girlfriend called immigration for me and they told me to go to the American Embassy to get a new E2 Visa paper/sticker in my passport. Then after I get this new paper (about 2 weeks) I have to go to Korean Immigration to get an extension on my ARC.
Is this true? It makes sense, but I thought they just stamp an extension in my passport and write a new date on my ARC.
Sorry for all the questions. I never knew this would be so confusing. Thanks for all the help!

There is no need to go to the American embassy. I just extended my contract (Have extended 7 times) and have never gone to my embassy. Unles this is a rule they implemented in the past week (I highly doubt it) just go to immigration with the paperwork I mentioned above. |
