My parents last night in Korea is on Friday and I want to take them to a really good Korean restaurant. I was wondering if anyone knew of any specifically around City Hall or Insadong. I know there are alot in the area but want to know of some people have been to and the names of restaurants.Maybe some directions as well. I am looking for either seafood, a duck galbi place or a traditional Korean meal with all the side dishes and etc. Thanks for any help. |

I suggest Chon (촌) located in Insadong. You get a nice traditional 'jeongshik' meal (tons of side dishes) in an old renovated hanok with nice decor. If you walking from Anguk station down Insadong road, after a few minutes there will be a sign on the left for Chon indicating it is down the alley. It's a small sign, and might only be in Korean.
Or, if you are heading from the Jongno area, it will be down an alley on your right.
Here is the website and directions: http://www.insadongchon.com

For traditional Korean, there is a very nice and not too expensive place off of Insadong; around the middle of the street if you turn east towards an Italian restaurant, there is a very nice and cheap Korean restaurant just next to it. I'm sorry I can't give better directions. I'd avoid just about everything else on Insadong, especially on the main street, as it's ridiculously overpriced.
City Hall area will be a bit cheaper, but I've never eaten there, so I can't help. There are a lot of nice places near Kyobo bookstore exit of Gwanghwamun on the back alleys away from the main street. |

If you want just one kind of Korean dish in a nice table-and-chairs setting Bulgogi Brothers is a great choice. The buffet atop the Ibis Hotel also has a nice selection of Korean foods that would appeal to westerners. I went with my parents (very Anglo-Celtic-Germanic tastes) to both and they really liked them. |

I was going to suggest Chon '촌', but Jane went and beat me to it.
Balls.
Alright then, I second Chon. It's a nice little space, and their 탕수육 is both delicious and a MIGHTY size.
Enjoy. |
