Hey everyone, hope this is the right forum to post this.
My wife an I are coming to SK in a couple weeks and I had a couple questions about sports in SK.
My wife played hockey in Uni. and I am a competitive fastball player(pitcher) and I have been trying to find if there is any hockey and/or softball to play over there. I've heard that it's mostly to be found either in Seoul or the army area (Itaweon?) but that it's shinny at best. My friend suggested Japan where they have a pretty decent softball scene but that is pretty much out of the question for a while. We will be living and teaching in Seoul.
So, is there anywhere to play either hockey or softball in South Korea????
Also, how long do people usually wait to get their ARC card? I understand that you need it to get internet and rent a place to live. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

don't know about the sports deal, although i would like to find some indoor bball courts or even somewhere to play softball when it gets warmer
i do know about the ARC card. If your school is on top of things they should take you to get your med check within the first few days. Once you get the results from that you can apply for your ARC card. My med check costs 75,000 and it was 10,000 for the ARC card, but I lived in Uijeongbu so the med check might vary. Anyway, the school will apply for the ARC card and you should get it within a week or two. So I would say about 2-3 weeks tops if your school has their stuff in order. You could always ask them to set up internet and stuff in their name then when you get your ARC card get it switched over. |

ok, been here since february.
am playing on a hardball/baseball team but would like to re-ask and see if there is any softball out there in seoul area?
i saw some people playing the other day near ichon at a sweet field but to my horror it was slo-pitch style. i am looking for fastpitch (or windmill, whip-pitch, whatever you want to call it as long as it doesn't come in on a slow arc).
i hate to say it like this, but fastpitch is the sport that jenny finch has made popular.
i wouldn't care about playing on a base if i have to, but when i get back home i will not be playing hardball as fastpitch is my love.
any help is appreciated.
thanks.

just a small update:
i would love to keep practicing my pitching (fastpitch-softball) while in seoul and if there is anyone that might be able to catch for me for a couple hours a night per week that would be awesome. there seems to be nowhere to play this game here.
maybe a couple cold ones and let me fire away. i really miss it a lot and will be playing when i go back to canada or australia, depending on what i decide to do (teachers college).
thanks! |
