What are the rules regarding whether or not to use "to?"
He made me go.
He had me go.
He got me to go.
He forced me to go.
He caused me to go. |

What do you mean by rules? Each one means something slightly different. Word choice and style are not rules, but choices. I could say that I have been working here for 10 years or that I have worked here for 10 years. There isn't a rule that tells me when to use them it is a choice of the language.
Forced is slightly stronger than made.
to me to go, might imply that the speaker was convinced
had me go: shows that He made the choice for you to go instead of someone else
Again these aren't rules: these are just slightly different meanings. Writing and speaking is as much about style and intent is it is about rules. |

Looks like a KET's idea for multiple choice exam questions. If the NET just allows these questions to be put on the exam. The NET will become a dancing monkey. |
