|
|
Hello all. I have recently graduated with a degree in English and have been wanting to go to Korea to teach English short term. Anywhere from 3-6 months but I prefer to stay for only 3-4.
Some basic questions:
1.) Where is the best place to find short term jobs? I've been looking at many places and have only found a minimum of 1 year long contracts.
2.) How difficult will it be to find a job that will cover airfare, housing, or both?
3.) Which will be the best option for me? (Public, private, or hakwon)?
4.) ANY OTHER ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
I haven't gone to Korea since the 4th grade and would love to experience Seoul or any other major cities while being able to teach English for a few months before I return to the States to find a full-time job. Thanks to all replies! |

The issue with short term placement is that most schools are not set up to support that.
If I have a teacher for one year, and he leaves, that already gives me problems with parents. Changes are not always good, so most schools look for stable long term teachers, rather then quick short ones.
There is also the cost of flight and housing ....
But, there must be some schools who don't mind hiring teachers like yourself on an hourly basis, mainly adult evening schools. You will have to be looking in that direction. |

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm currently in New Jersey right now, how would I go about finding openings in hakwons? |

2. Difficult to find jobs that will cover your airfare for a short term 3-6 month job. 6 month jobs are very few and far between but I have seen them on RARE occasions. Most jobs specify 1 year contracts, and after 6 months you don't have to pay back the airfare......so I suppose you could do that and quit after 6 months......but whether you're okay with that......
4. You said you haven't been to Korea since they 4th grade, so assume you're gyopo and get the gyopo visa? if so, I would just come over here and do several part times (no housing or airfare) but you can earn substantially more money than doing 1 full time job. Plus there's not so many issues for when you quit part time jobs. You have an F visa and can not restricted like E2 visa holders. |

^thanks for the replies.
I feel like if I went over there for 6 months, the money I make would be cancelled out due to the costs of airfare/housing
I'll have to keep searching I guess for a 6 month job. ANY OTHER ADVICE would again be greatly appreciated. Cheers |
