Hello, I'm currently reviewing different opportunities and one of the ones I have is for this school. SLP seems to have kind of a bad rep in general but from the posts here some people say it depends on the location, so I'm curious to know if anyone has worked there and if so what you thought. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

i've slp'ers in my area, not bundang, and they were all unhappy.

i'd go public school if I were you.

the locals here call it the "Slave Labor Program"

but who knows, every locale is different....

Is there anyone out there who currently works at an SLP hagwon? I am a kinder /elementry teacher and am having problems with lack of prep time scheduled for myself.

The little one's/kinders, have just as much book work to do as my older children. My 7 year olds have a total of 7 books alone and I teach two of these classes. If you work at SLP, you will then understand what I am saying. Open classes, supervisors breathing down your neck, parents breathing down your neck, etc...

Is there anyone else out there that has a problem with a lack of prep time?

Thanks for the feed back. The other kinder teachers feel the same and I just wanted to know if anyone else had the same sentiments as ours.

I'd nix the offer. The parents are invited, nay, encouraged to scrutinize the teachers very closely. I heard it's a big selling point for the school... you have your "fun" hagwons and your "academic" hagwons, and I think SLP is somewhere in between, but with extra creepy parental scrutiny encouraged...

Or, at least that's what I heard about the place

If I were you I would decline the offer. I personally work for an SLP branch and will end my contact 2 months early. Between the enormous work load for both student and teacher alike, micromanaging, low pay, low prep time, and the horrible "open classes' where the parent's and supervisors talk about you afterwards and just not worth it.

Though it does have its pluses, no worry about your paycheck each month, at least where I work, very clean work enviornment, and very helpful Korean co-teachers. Not to mention the health insurance.

I would look toward the public schools if I were you.

Apparently SLP has cleaned up its act a lot in the past few years. There's plenty of micromanaging in my branch, but nowhere near as bad as iggyb's experience.

I intend to serve out my entire contract. Even though the prep time issue is annoying, SLP has given me no reason to run early. You could do better, but you could do a lot worse too. You put in your year at SLP and you move onto something better.

Do make sure you carefully check out the individual branch, though. Some are legit, some are total f-ups.
