Just read that. Weird story though. First story I read said he had hung himself, second (with a quote from his agent) said it "appeared" he died due to natural causes.
Either way, it's sad. He was always one of my favorites. Just seemed so...cool.

Yeah the younger crowd knows him for Kill Bill, but he had quite the career.
Awful either way. |

How apt.
If there was any 72-year old actor to die in a Bangkok hotel room I'd think it'd be David Carradine.
I am not at all surprised. It just seems to suit him.
Perhaps it's because he presented an image of a mystic, scuzzy, sage from without.
RIP Kung Fu Guru. |

| Suicide seems like an odd way out for him. I wonder if there is more. Maybe something along the lines of Michael Hutchence. |

Thai coroner seeks cause of "Kung Fu" actor's death
"We are now running tests and then we will decide the cause of death," the hospital's chief coroner, Nantana Sirisap, told Reuters.
"This certainly was not a natural cause of death," she said.

Suicide is what was first reported to the press..but now that has been quickly RULED out.
Hard to imagine anyone would believe that a very famous individual would fly to Bangkok, get naked in a closet and hang himself. C'mon folks. Think about the ramifications for a very famous person with a public career would mean to OFF himself in such a way. Obviously unintended death on his part.
Anyways, most have realized it was aphixation that did him in, I mean the press and authorities as well. |

If it was accidental, it likely was "autoerotic asphyxia" ...
http://www.thezephyr.com/deadlyclimax.htm
However, on Larry King's show, one of David's actor friends said that he heard that police in Thailand definitely suspect "foul play" ... |

| The room was supposedly locked from the inside, and the rope was tied around 'other parts of his body' according to other reports. Sounding more and more like a sex act gone wrong. |

I think that's too bad, because I really liked his acting in the Kung Fu series. Thailand has too much sexuality and of an underlife in a not good for many expats or people who go there, and there is drugs out there. If you take drugs and then have thoughts of doing who knows what you could get yourself killed, but we can only speculate. We're human we can make mistakes, but if we're not careful, it can be deadly. I really loved Kung Fu the series. I have series I and II in the U.S. I don't have number 3. For me, when I was young, it was an inspiritation to watch.
Had he been somewhat close to that, I doubt he would have been found hanging. I mourn his death whether it was a suicide, him trying to be erotic. People try to stimulate themselves, but why do it in such a risky way. Anyway, anything could have happened.
I am sorry the world lost the actor. If he was murdered, I hope we find the culprit(s).
R.I.P. Kung Fu guru. You will sorely be missed. I hope you are sleeping well and in peace. I really do.
How sad.... |

(haa! i keep seeing "R.I.P. something-something Guru" on this thread! you know what. i can no longer read "Jongno-gu" or "guru" in the print media without doing a mental double-take)
Damn it. Damn this whole sordid, disturbing death.
Adventurer, Thailand didn't do anything to that "expat". He wasn't an expat. He was only in Thailand to film a movie.
Found dead with a shoestring tied around his neck and his genitals.
And how utterly cruel fate can be. The name of the movie was "Stretch".
Did you know that "Master Po" in the TV series Kung Fu was played by none other than Keye Luke? Yes. Charlie Chan's "Number One Son" in the 1930s, and well as just about the first major recurring role for an ethnic Asian in Hollywood.
And who was "Master Kan" in the TV series? That would be Philip Ahn, the first Korean-American to grace the silver screen. His parents were the first-ever Korean couple admitted into the United States.
And of course David's illustrious father John Carradine, well... his films line a shelf in my library.
Much history there. With a tragic footnote. |

Philip Ahn's father, Do-san Ahn Chang-ho, was quite famous, as he was a top independence activist for Korea. It's also interesting to note that Philip Ahn, who played a believable Shaolin monk, was a Presbyterian elder.
It's too bad about David Carradine. I first remember him from the original Kung Fu TV series back in the early 70s. My wife probably remembers him mostly for his role as the evil Justin LaMotte in the American Civil War series, North and South. He could certainly play whatever role he was given to the limit. |
