I'm planning on repatriating to Canada in the next couple of years and am looking for information.

I've targeted Ottawa with Toronto a second choice. Can anyone recommend some good message boards/communities related to living in the Ottawa area? I really need to spend some time asking questions about best neighborhoods to live in, housing prices, schools, job market and a bazillion other things.

thanks in advance for your help.

I never heard of such a website.

I would suggest just ask people who are from those cities. Why not ask here in off-topic?

What type of work will you be doing when you return? That would be the #1 thing people would need to know to figure out where you could afford to live (unless you are coming back with enough to buy a house cash).

For Toronto, you won't be bringing back enough money to buy a house cash and live in a good neighbourhood. I looked at moving to Toronto and if I do, I would likely live in the Yonge Street area between Sheppard and Steeles. The reason is Korea town is there so my wife could make use of the shops and there are tons of new apartments and condos in the area with reasonable rents. Not good schools in the area though. For good schools in Toronto you are looking at rich areas. This could be why a lot of people are moving north into York Region. That is where I would want my kid to go to school if I lived near there.

Craigslist.org has classifieds and message boards for every metropolitan area in the US and Canada. Plenty of info there.

My mother was a principal at Yorkview, which is close to Yonge and Finch. It was a French immersion school. When she was there, it was considered one of the top schools. She turned it around. I don't know what has happened to it since she retired, but hopefully all her hard work hasn't been lost.

Leonidas, I have a friend who lives in Ottawa, if you are interested, I could put you in touch with him via email. You could ask him your questions. If you want any info on Toronto, I spent 27 years living there.
