Hey,
A few weeks ago, someone posted up a wonderful list of homonyms. I was wondering where the thread is? Anyone have it or does anyone have a link for the thread?
Me. |

hey cubanlord...you might want to throw a few heteronyms in there...they make for interesting study as a subset of homographs.
Here is some material....and some links if you are still interested.
Homonyms
same spelling - same pronunciation different meaning
bear (animal) and bear (carry),
left (opposite of right) and left (past tense of leave)
Homographs
same spelling different pronunciation
read(present tense) read(past tense)
bow to bend your waist ---- bow bow and arrow
Heteronyms- subject(noun) subject(verb)
object(noun) object(verb)
Homophones
same pronunciation different spelling
bear(animal) bare(exposed) --- read(present tense) - red(colour)
to, too, two --- there, their, theyre

"The bear cannot bear to be bare."
When one of my co-teachers goes techno-grammar-crazy, I lay the above sentence on her and say -
"Lucy, you got some 'splaining to do." |
