I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the budget/backpacker areas in KUL, Bali and Singapore.... I'm thinking something comparable to Khao San Road in Bangkok (for KUL and SIN). I just want to know where I can find an area with a plethora of cheap guest houses, etc (not a dorm) where I can crash. In Bali I'd prefer an area on the beach, but think that might be difficult as its tourism is quite developed.

Any info would be great!

In KL I usually stay in Bukhit Bintang area, usually in a small hotel, not sure if this is your budget but about 30 USD a night, not too far from downtown or China town either, but I think China town is cheaper for rooms, in Singapore I think China town is also the cheapest option; though I prefer to pay a little extra and stay close to the Quays in Singapore.
