"Che Guevara's granddaughter poses semi-naked for animal rights... with a string of carrots for ammo
Her grandfather was the most famous revolutionary to have every lived.
But Lydia Guevara - granddaughter of Cuban guerilla leader Che - hopes to be at the forefront of another revolution, this time for for vegetarianism.
To further her cause, the 24-year-old has posed semi-nude in a PETA campaign.

An image shows her wearing a red beret, camouflage pants and bandoliers of baby carrots while standing with one fist on her hip and the other outstretched in homage to her grandfather.
The print campaign is expected to debut in October in magazines and posters.
It will be launched first in Argentina, where Che Guevara was born, and then internationally.

PETA approached Miss Guevara after finding out she was a vegetarian.
'It very much evokes the tag line of the ad, which is 'Join the vegetarian revolution,' Mr McGraw said. 'It's an homage of sorts to her late grandfather.'
Che Guevara was a Marxist leader who played a pivotal role in Fidel Castro's rise to power in Cuba. He was executed in Bolivia in 1967.
The ad is PETA's first campaign promoting vegetarianism in South America.
'We say the best way to save animals is not to eat them,' Mr McGraw said.
He said others who have promoted vegetarianism for PETA include Paul McCartney, Forest Whittaker and Alicia Silverstone.
It has also emerged that Natascha Kampusch, who was abducted and held in a cellar for eight years, wants to strip off for a PETA campaign. "

Che is rolling over in his grave right now.
See, this really bothers me. I tend to agree with the whole Anthony Bourdain school of thought on vegitarianism and veganism. That it's 90% based around this whole selfish, self righteous modern (and mostly "western") way of thinking. I mean seriously, there are kids running around right now, who would kill to eat just a scrap of meat....several probably IN CUBA who would probably shank you prison style for the thrown away brain of the same cow that gave us a Ribeye. Then you have people like PETA touting this whole meat is murder idea.
Now, Che's grand daughter. The man spent years in the jungles of South America risking his life for an idea....and don't get me wrong I don't agree with a lot of his philosophy....only to have her come along and do this.
Something about it just seems inherently wrong.
(BTW. if this makes no sense. I've been awake all of ten minutes...my thoughts ain't flowing to coherently to say the least, so I apologize.) |
