|
|
hi. i have a question about the return airfare back home at the completion of my contract. any help and advice is appreciated. thanks!!
i'm going to be staying in korea and at the same school, and i won't be using the return airfare to go home in between contracts.
does the school owe me any money for the airfare if i won't be using it? |

NO!
You can, however, go to another vacation destinations and get the airfare reimbursed though. |

Here is how it works, if you are signing on with your same school and do not intend to fly home during your vacation, you can opt to have the price of the airline ticket deposited into your bank account. I have done this for 4 contract renewals at my school, and it is like an extra bonus. Your contract will stipulate how much they pay, but my contract now states that they will pay me the full round trip ticket price for economy class to the nearest international airport closest to my home.
If you have questions or need to speak with someone from my school who knows about the rules just send me a PM and I'll be glad to get your school in touch with someone who knows. |

it won't let me PM because i don't have the minimum required number of posts...
so, to reply to your message: the contract just states "return ticket" and doesn't specify any cash equivalent. i'm not sure if you meant that your contract had previously stipulated a cash equivalent payment in lieu of airplane ticket.
does that change anything? or do they still owe me something for it even though i'm staying in korea.
thanks very much again! |

if you work for a mom and pop small business, then don't even ask, as chances are they aren't wallowing in cash and you don't need it anyways, so count your lucky stars it's a place you even want to re-sign at
if you have a government job in the public schools or work for a big corporate chain academy then by all means squeeze every red cent you can out of the place even if everything else is going great. Why not? |

hey toastburn, if you've already agreed to stay at the school..but
haven't said anything bout airfare..bad luck..it may be difficult...
have you SIGNED the contract for the next year...if you havent, don't yet
..negotiate money out of them before signing....otherwise if they don't give anything just say you'll THINK about comingback...then watch them
negotiate money with you...but i fear from your post you might have sign
You may have to take this on the chin as a learning exp..next time you'llknow....the first two years for me here were learning from situations
like this....
ask them anyway...who knows..they might shout you a trip to thailand
and back..(or where you want to go) but don't hold breath.
I saw your post and got exited but then I read you want to STAY...
where it's interesting is where...you've already told them you're leaving
but you can stay in korea!
here's my situation:
I leaving this job in late august..I want another one...this school is ok but
i want a change...I CHANGED MY VISA TO F2 during this contract.
My contract only says "round trip airfare provided" so he owes me
plane ticket home. but...I can stay in korea and want to.
Now i'm looking for jobs.
I'm prepared to take it on the chin and just not ask for money for the plane ticket.......i'm getting secerence and big payout anyway...BUT
my wife isn't and is she wants money out of him!
Read those last four sentences again |
