Just to be clear, if I'm renewing with the same school, and I got a CBC the last time I renewed last year, I won't need one this year, right? This is for Gyeongsangnamdo, btw (Masan Immigration), public school. Nobody who's been working here since April 2008 at the same school has had to to this twice, correct? |

Does the same apply to Daejeon?
It would be great not to have to do it. |

I don't know if it applies to all Immigration offices, you know that they don't all follow the same regulations. That said, I and my brother just extended at our school, and we didn't need to submit another CRC. I hear the immi office in Busan is really strict. Don't know about Deajeon. Go in and ask them. Also, get them to write it out on paper and sign it, because so often you can get 10 different answers from 10 different immigration officers. |

I'm renewing in Daejeon. I do not require a CBC or health check. |

Or health check? Wow - my CT will be delighted to hear he doesn't have to waste another morning driving me down to Changwon like last year. |

I arrived in May of last year, was required to submit a CRC, renewed in April of this year, and was not required to do so again. This was with Daegu Immigration, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Also, I work for a Hakwon, and a second health check was not required. |

Cool - this is almost enough to make me support CBCs (I think it's a good idea in theory, but Korea will inevitably be unable to work with the systems of countries that work differently). |

I have to have a health check anyway, to satisfy my uni's policies, but it's not part of Immigration's renewals. |

Has anyone renewed/extended recently at the Anguk Immigration Office (I think it's Seojongro one)? I am planning on signing on again for another year and wondering if I need a new CBC. Thanks!
btw... this is for a hogwon... thanks again! |

Anedotal evidence means nothing.
If one is not invited by the Ministry of Education to extend their period of stay (sojourn), an Immigration officer can require a new criminal record check. |

"In addition, those with the E-2 visa issued after Dec 15 2007 no longer need to submit the criminal record certificate to reissue the same type of visa while staying in Korea."
I'm on an E-2 visa at a public school in Suwon (submitted my first CBC Aug. of 2008), I want to stay in Korea and renew my visa for a private school in Seoul. I guess the safest thing to do is go to the immigration office in Seoul and ask if I need a new CBC. Has anyone been required to get a new CBC when switching from public to prvt? |

In case anyone comes across this thread, I visited immigration today and told them my situation which is this:
I work in Suwon at a publich school on an E-2 visa. My contract and ARC card expire Aug. 28th 2009.
I submitted my first criminal record certificate in Aug, 2008. The criminal record certificate was from the police station in my home town in California.
I want to move to Seoul and begin work at a private school starting Sept. 1st.
The clerk looked me up in the computer via my arc card, and said I did not need to submit another cbc. |
