I am not a geek or language nerd but recently a Professor said that the English language recently added it's millionth word.

There is an interesting discussion here on Newsnight about it.

Some interesting points are that English has by far the most number of words compared to other languages. It has more than twice that of French. The reasons for this is English became the language adopted by scientists.

Another interesting point is that Chinese could be a threat to English in the future and Spanish is the most rapidly growing language.
