Hi guys,

These days my hagwon boss has requested that I teach six of her friends for an hour after my classes. She has offered me 20,000 won but gave me no chance to reject the offer. She told me the day before and already her friends had come to meet me and the books were bought. I know 20,000 is not a fair price. What do you think would be a good request on my part?

Kyle

grow a set...and tell her you can't do it.
or if you feel it's too low, ask for more. i'd say at least 40, but it's up to you how much your extra time is worth.

if you can't do that...ask a coworker to help explain it to the boss.

You're getting ripped off big time.

20,000 for 6 students? so you're basically getting 4,000 won per student.

No matter what, don't do it. You're not getting anything out of it. You could do it out of the kindness of your heart though.

Heck, overtime I'd do it if it doesn't interfere with your social life. 20,000 is the normal going rate for overtie so you're not really getting jipped. 20k a few times a week will certainly add up too.

You have to put your foot down - It will start with 6 people and then you will end up teaching 20 of her friends.

But what she will end up doing is including the class as part of your hours and you'll end up doing it for nothing in the end. Think about leaving because I can't see a happy ending here.

If your teaching hour is 40mins then it isn't so bad. However if a teaching hour is 60mins then I wouldn't do it, or ask for more money.

On second thought, you're not frigging indentured to the wonjonyeona. Tell her you have prior commitments and if she wants you to do it it'll have to be during your regular hours. I'm sure she's quite capable of amending your teaching schedule to fit them in.
