I could be mistaken, but I believe there is a form for extending past the one year limit.

No idea...but maybe your friend could pick up a phone and call immigration and see what they say. After that, call a couple of others and try to figure it out from all of the gathered information.

Here we go again. But this time we have a "buddy" of someone with a Korean spouse who seems to have a Korean spouse who is incapable of calling the immigration office and just asking the question. Picking up the phone is very difficult!
