Yes that's right. After drawing 0-0 in Saudi Arabia last night, the North have qualified for the World Cup in South Africa next year.

I would LOVE for them to get drawn against the USA.

Well done North Korea (soccer team!)

To the team? Absolutely. They have qualified from a group ahead of Saudi Arabia and Iran, teams that are both considerably higher in the fifa rankings than DPRK.

Yep, they looked pretty happy. The womens team by contrast are just plain stroppy (as well as real plain janes-or Ji Yongs or whatever)

You have to wonder what is at stake for them by qualifying-not just materially in terms of housing, a new TV, room salon time, whatever, but of how they will be propelled into the North Korean limelight.

Just as well they did qualify-Father General may have taken a very dim view.

If they play South Korea, it'll be a draw unless each team can absolutely avoid it and south koreans will get silly maudlin. I'd love to see them play the U.S.

You won't get two asian teams playing against each other until the knock-out stages. So, the chances of a NK vs SK in the world cup is pretty slim, unless both get to the knock-out stages. Which, IMO would be slim.

That's cool.

The match I saw them play against S. Korea a while back looked kind of shabby.

Congrats to them.
