I've already read this http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=157712 and it didn't help answer my question.

According to the korean immigration site http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/InfoDetailR_en.pt

The documents required for an extension of stay for those on E-2 visas are (among other things)
- "Original copy of Health Examination for Employment (include test and HIV test) issued by A Public Health Center or A General Hospital or A Public Hospital
*In case of Native instructors invited by the Ministry of Education need Health Examination records (include TBPE test and HIV test)
- Issuance of proof of (lack of) criminal records... those already in Korea who were issued their criminal record from their consulates in Korea have no need for an Apostille...
*Exempt: Native instructors invited my the Ministry of Education"

I took this to mean I did not need a new health check, all I needed was the original copy, which I assumed my school had. I showed all this to my coteacher and asked her for the original copy. She came back and told me that the school does not have the original copy, immigration keeps the original copy. I have a copy but I don't think it's the original. She also said that all teacher are required to have a health check every year.

1. Is my school lying to me?
2. Where would the original copy of my health check be if the school doesn't have it?
3. I'm with SMOE does that mean I was invited by the Ministry of Education and am exempt from getting a new CRC?

Thank you in advance for any help or answers!

Your school is not lying to you.

In essence, the (poorly worded) Immigration web site is saying -
Because you are renewing a public contract (invited by the Ministry), you don't need the 'comprehensive' medical exam a 'first-timer' is required to undergo. You do need a 'basic' medical plus TBPE and HIV tests.

I just did this two weeks ago and the 'whole deal' cost W42,350 (up a couple of thousand from last year). Don't let the hospital 'sell' you an unnecessary, 'comprehensive' for W80-120 K.

Yes, you are exempt from having to submit a new CRC.

P.S. I always loved the term 'original copy'... instinctively, it sounds oxymoronic; however, it differs in meaning from 'a copy of the original'. Wink
