I had a few questions about the return ticket protocol since any information on it is nonexistent in the GEPIK contract. So, I called GEPIK today and spoke to Lee Harim about the standard procedure. She told me that our schools cannot/will not/should not reimburse our return plane tickets until after are back in our home countries (within 2 weeks).
This sounds like a perfect opportunity for schools to get away with not paying for the tickets. I trust that my school would eventually reimburse me, but it's inconvenient to have that much money tied up at once. Plus, I'm sure that not every GEPIK school is as trustworthy (from what I've heard, anyway). Up until today I was under the impression that schools reimburse you before you go home. Does anyone have experience with this process? |

I got my plane ticket money back today - and I leave tomorrow. It depends on the school and thats probably why there is nothing on the contract. Just waiting now on my 900,000 won deposit which should be reimbursed in cash tomorrow as I leave my flat at 08.30. |

Yes, Harim Lee told you the official position, which is the one that will ruffle the fewest feathers, should the schools complain that they're worried about budgeting or you running away a few days early or whatever.
If you'd like to avoid taking chances, the best thing you can do is try to get your school to purchase your ticket for you. Find the best deal you can from Xanadu or Kangsan travel, etc, reserve the itinerary you want, then give it to your co-teacher along with the bank account info for the travel agent.
Tell them the itinerary will expire in [n] days unless they deposit the money into that Korean Travel Agent's account, at which time it will be more expensive. |
