Hi
Job offer in Jeonju and have mixed feelings about the area. Lived in Seoul 2 years and also currently considering job offers in Seoul and Daegu.
Only sources I've seen online is the Jeonju Hub and very skimpy info on Galbijim.
What can you tell me about living there? Is it TOO small? I know there's a nightlife, but is it a matter of going to the same places over and over and over again...or are there plenty of options to mix things up?
How far is it to Busan? To Daegu? To Seoul?
Any insight and opinions would be great - Thanks! |

I've been in Jeonju for 2.5 years and it seems that the area is attracting more and more older expats and couples. Yes, there are plenty of singles but the quieter lifestyle seems to attract more mature people. I like the city. I can easily get around on my 125cc motorcycle and there are decent shops. There are tons of coffee shops, if that's your thing. It's easy to get to all points in Korea via highway bus. There are 2 bus centers, and a train station-no subway. If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Cool...I have a specific question about Jeonju. I was there a month last year and liked it a lot, and will be doing research there for 1-2 years. My husband wants a middle school or high school public school job- the surrounding area is okay too as long as it's not too far (we won't have a car). Does Jeonju have enough schools that finding this type of position for March should be possible? (I assume he'd have to go through a recruiter...or is it possible to apply directly? We'll be in Seoul for 6 months beforehand). |

You can check out the JOBS listing on Jeonju Hub as I have no specific knowledge of school recruiting here in Jeonju. On that page there is a link to a recruiter that specializes in this area. Give it a go and see what happens. I assume since the pop. is around 700,000 that there should be plenty of schools. |

Thanks for the reply. Yea, I already checked out the jeonju hub, but it doesn't have TONS of info and no forums.
I wish I could PM you (can't yet). Maybe as the days pass I will have enough posts AND will actually be coming there, and then I can PM u. Or maybe I'll end up choosing another area! Ah, the joys of the Korean job hunt. I always say: there are millions of jobs to be had in Korea, but 900,000 of them are crap. I've been wading through the crap, so to speak! |

Well, here is my take, for what it's worth. I live in Iksan, about 30 or 40 minutes to the northeast of Jeonju. As soon as you leave the city limits of either city, you can see the other city in the distance. Now Iksan only has a pop. of around 300, 000, and the nightlife is just like you described in your post. Many of us go to Jeonju for diversion, as it is at least 3 or 4 times the size and thus has more to do.
But here is the funny thing. Even though Iksan is much smaller, it has a KTX stop and Jeonju does not. This is huge when it comes to getting around conveniently.
Best bet for the 2 cities you mentioned is by bus. I would guesstimate around 2 hours for Daegu and 3 for Busan.
But I would say Jeonju is a very livable city, and is reputed to have the best bibimbop in all of Korea. |

I know quite a bit about Jeonju and the surrounding area. Lived there for a year and half and explored all around that area.
Tons of beautiful things to see.
If you want a job in Jeonju, I can hook you up. |

I would love to be hooked up with a job in Jeonju (or rather, my husband would). He's definitely looking for a public school or college/university job and not a hagwon job (though he mostly likely doesn't have the experience/credentials to get a university job right away). I might ask you again come November or December (as we won't be moving from Seoul until March). Thanks... |

Hey guys,
I am moving to Jeonju early August but my boyfriend is looking for a decent job. He would really like to work less than 40 hours a week (if possible) so he can write on the side (he would like to write for a career later). We'll be living close to Jeonju University. Anybody have any leads in that area? Your help would be much appreciated. It sounds like Jeonju is going to be perfect! |
