Hey guys,

I am currently working at a school and the contract finishes september 14. I have been offered a position which starts august 31st. I dont want to get a release letter because I would not get the bonus and I would be on holiday from august 25 - sep 14. I know its against the rules to be employed by 2 schools at the same time but is it possible to volunteer for 2 weeks and do you know how i would renew the visa without a letter of release? would i need to do a visa run? thanks.

So, do you plan to stay at your current school until the end of the contract? If so, then you can get a letter of release, and the new employer can take over your visa the very next day. No visa run required. Just make sure that they extend it for a full year.

However, if your new employer cannot wait until the 14th, then it is possible to have a secondary place of employment added to your E2 visa. Your current employer must agree to this, and possibly go down to immigration with you/ write a letter allowing you to do this. But your current employer must be the primary person sponsoring your visa. Then, again, you can have it transferred at a later date.

Your wording in the last couple of sentences is off. You wouldn't be renewing the visa. You would be getting a completely new visa. In order for you to get a new visa, option one, is as I mentioned above. Option 2, wait until the current visa expires, then submit all the documents again, wait for your visa issuance number, and fly to Japan.

Hope that helps.
