Hey everyone
I know there has been a thread on here somewhere about those small portable laptops (like the Eee PC..etc.). Which one is the best bang for its dollar? I'm currently in the market for one and was just wondering everyone thoughts.
Cheers |

I have the 900 EEE pc and really like it. Its running XP with 2 GB of ram.
It works brilliantly for web surfing, word processing and email. There is some stutter when trying to watch HD videos on YouTube and other streaming sites. If you try to multi-task with too many apps you get slow response.
That being said, its great for what it does.
My friend just bought a MSI Wind and its working out well for him. |

I was considering buying one for some time. They were originally designed to be a cheap, sturdy and functional alternative to a full blown laptop or desktop. Now they cost as much as a decent desktop and are essentially really small, sluggish laptops.
They're like that great piece of software that used to be a 1mb download and did everything you needed it to do, but now comes closer to 100mb and has somehow become far less useful and attractive despite a million new features. It wasn't broken. Why'd they fix it?
The only thing they've got going for them is the portability factor, but how often do you really need a computer on the subway anyway? |

I've got an MSI wind and it does what I need. 90% surfing the internets and 10% old school games (Theme Hospital and CM4).
I read a review of all netbooks recently that had the eeePC 1000 at the top of the list. My MSI cost about 750,000 with an extra stick of RAM. So not exactly rip roaring value for money.

Currently I've got my eye on the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Seems to be highly rated when concerning the small guys...
Anyone own one of these? |

| I have an Acer Aspire One, bought it before I moved here for about $350 Canadian. I love it and it's just as robust as any other non-gaming laptop. I use it as my day to day computer - only real difference for me is that I don't game much with it b/c of the size of the screen - besides that, no issues with it whatsoever. |

Has anyone purchase an Asus Eee PC 1000HE? How much did you pay for it and where did you get it from in Yongsan? (assuming you bought it there)
Thanks for the help! |

| I shopped for a netbook in Yongsan and Technomart last month. Unfortunately, they are a lot more expensive here than in the States. I ended up not buying one, but of the ones I tried (Asus, MSI, Samsung, HP, Dell, LG), I preferred the Samsung NC series because of its larger and more natural-feeling keyboard. |

| I have the Asus 1000HE. Did the upgrade to 2GB myself - super simple. It's absolutely the best bag for your buck right now. I bought mine off Amazon and had my aunt ship it to Korea. It's not the smallest netbook but it is small. This unit rates the highest on just about every netbook review. Very happy with this purchase. |

| I have an 8.9 aspire one. I just dropped it from about 3 feet (my backpack wasn't zipped up and it slid out). I love it and it still works fine. 350 CAN, good value! |

Where & on What Do You Compute?
Me?
(rough guestimates)
90% in an office or at home in Seoul / on desktops
5% in hotels overseas / on a *luggable* laptop (I swear it's put on weight and bulk since I bought it)
3% in clients' conference rooms / on that laptop
2% on the fly in Seoul & Gyeonggi-do / PC bang or other people's computers
It's only that last 2% that I'd ever use a netbook for. Urgent, unexpected, unavoidable (and rare) email & web access needs. "What about while hanging out at cafes?" No. That's down time. I don't even like seeing other people using computers there. I fantasise about "tripping" and dumping my coffee on their heads. "What about when you're on the subway?" Oh, my five subway rides/year on average? No need there. Possibly in taxis, though. |

| Mine comes in handy when I am not teaching. I have a co-teacher, so when she is teaching I still remain in the classroom, but I am somewhere else altogether. Take right now for instance....WIN |

| My uni mandated IPs for everyone on campus so disconnecting my laptop and then re-establishing my dedicated IP is a pain in the... Additionally, my laptop cost me $1600 and I am a bit paranoid about travelling with it. The netbook is so small and cheap, it makes travelling a breeze. I often like to do work outside the house and office, like a coffee shop (sorry Jongno) so it's just an excellent tool/toy. |

| I was in the market for a new laptop/notebook ... I found that the e-books did not have the power (CPU, RAM ETC.) that I wanted, so I got a 14 inch laptop instead. I paid a bit more for it though I thought the extra power was well worth it. The size of my laptop seems quite portable and not much bigger than the e-book things. |
