I'm looking to get advice ideas on what to see, where to stay and cost for a trip to Beijing(7 days) and then Japan(7/8days). Budget around 6 million won(incl flights).

Places i want to go in Japan, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto maybe Osaka.
What is worth seeing? Sumo? Where is worth staying(my GF will be coming with to Japan, so can't slum it).

Beijing: What sort of budget? Places to stay(No GF)....picked up some tips from the thread by Wendy Rose...anything else?

Any help appreciated.

Domestic travel in Japan is going to suck up a large portion of your budget. If you want to go all the way to Hiroshima and back from Tokyo stopping in Osaka and Kyoto, get a JR pass- it's Y28,000 for one week (without the JR Pass your train tickets will easily be more than $500/person). Kyoto is a good city for sightseeing. I'd recommend spending 2~3 days there. Sumo runs on a very strict schedule of tournaments. You just have to be in right place at the right time. Japan is probably going to be over $100/day per person, once you factor in meals and transportation.

Beijing is much easier to do on a budget. If you're willing to stay in a grungy hostel, eat market or street food, and only take taxis when absolutely necessary, you can keep it to around $50 a day- less if you're particularly talented Smile.

For hotels in both places, try hostels.com. I've used them to book guesthouses in Japan. They have plenty of budget hotels and places with private rooms, too.

Good luck with the trip planning. Let me know if you have some more specific questions.
