I've had numerous problems with my compaq laptop and have had to send it to be repaired several times. The last time I sent it the guy replaced the hard drive installed the korean version of xp (instead of the english version which I had sent him). He also didn't reinstall the norton symantics antivirus. I"ve contacted norton and they said they can't provide me with a new program and the repair guy says he can't give me one and to get it from norton. Of course that isn't an option.
Any ideas on how i can get a norton anti virus system.

Did it come pre-installed on your laptop's hard drive? If it did and you don't have a cd for it then you'll have to buy a new copy or download an illegal cracked version from peer-to-peer. That 'repair guy' really screwed you over.

Norton, McAfee and tons of other antivirus apps are located on all the P2P programs from the internet.

If you want to download them directly from my private FTP just message me .... all full regular retail apps

my computer died on me yet again. about ten minutes after posting the original post. Funnily enough i was downloading a driver from compaq for my computer when it happened. What a great driver that was, instead of improving my system it make it inoperable. Anyways compaq might be be giving me a different computer back since I have already had so many problems with it. I think this is the fifth time i've sent it to them. I've had it SInce june or july and its spent about one month in the repair shop in Busan. Now I'm back to using the pc bangs.

What model is it? Specs? Did it have a virus? I have a Presario 2100 and it's never had a problem. Do you regularly defrag? Try a tune up program to clean the registry. A clean registry makes things run much smoother. Sounds like you may have gotten an unlucky system though.

its a presario 2560 ap. 2.6 ghz prcessor 40 gigabyte harddrive. 512 ddram and 15" xsga monitor.

I d fragged it every month or two and did disc clean up. I don't know about tune ups so i have never done one. I'm pretty sure i've never had a virus on it. i had norton antivirus and subscribed to the updates. so that should have dealt with most viruses.
i think i just got a bum computer. although they have pretty much replaced all of the interior.

There are a ton of free apps

MS regclean for one and tons of others

Download Norton System Works 2004 ... it has antivirus and utlities, including WinDoctor which will do what is being discussed as a tuneup. Though they don't FIX systems for the most part and in fact can cause problems, use them (it) wisely.

If you want that CD as well, let me know

ouch that sux. I just had my compaq fixed by those guys and it took 3 days (+ the Solnal holiday) to get done. My motherboard fried, so I got a new cover and a fan while I was at it. The guy over there seemed to know what he was doing. At first he told me that it would be too expensive for the new motherboard, but 200k is a small price to pay IMO.

For Norton, just download Overnet and then get the new Norton.

Here is also a site for you to bookmark. It contains cracks for many different applications...

Yeah you must have a bad machine. I've got the 2510 and it's been really good.
