There is a back story but it's largely pointless, so I'll cut the jib! Essentially there was a delay getting myself down to the Korean embassy in London to sort out my visa. I was originally meant to be arriving in Incheon on Thursday, but because of the delay my visa won't be ready until Thursday and then I'll book my flight to go out ASAP.
However, I put on my visa app that I would be arriving on the 24th (I didn't know it took a week to process) and therefor will expire on the June 24th 2010. But as my start date won't be until the 30th (about) I will be expected to stay beyond the 24th.
Hope I haven't lost you yet......
Anyway my recruiter said that if visa dates aren't changed I may loose out on my severance pay at the end of my contract.
I'm calling the embassy tomorrow see it can be changed, hopefully it can with ease, but I'm not sure.
I can't be arsed with more delays getting out there so would it be possible to get a visa extension while I'm out in Korea? It would only be by a week or so.
I didn't really cut on the jib, did I |

I think that you should be ok because the one year is based off the date of first entry, rather than any other date on your visa. On mine, I have an issue date, and a final entry date 3 months later. I'm about 95% sure that my first visa actually expired one year after my date of entry.
I would imagine that very few people can actually work the whole year. By the time you settle in, are trained, and then start teaching (and maybe spend some time in a loose quarantine- i.e. no classroom exposure), a week or two will probably have passed. To qualify for their severence, most people don't actually work a whole calendar year.
Anyway, I would still double check with the embassy in London. I had to get a new passport when I was home in January, and my visa was still in my old passport. I rang the embassy in Canberra and they were very helpful with answering my question. Hope the London one is the same. |
