earlier today (saturday) about 3.30pm. i was coming around the corner at coldstone and quiznos. two korean police were chasing down a foreigner. im guessing a soldier: looked in shape, short haircut, hip hop clothes.

he was running right at me. thanks to my ninja reflexes and obama-like-calm, i was able to just step aside and let him and the cops run past (i keep wishing i had stuck my leg out to trip up the guy, meh)

anywyas. just wondering if anybody else saw this or saw what happened on the other side of the corner to cause this? i dont see police chasing down foreigners, especially army, ever unless its the weekend night and theyre drunk. but this was the middle of the day and the guy had the look of total fear in his face, which makes me think he must have done something really bad and knew he was in big trouble.

The only time I've ever seen a foreigner run from the cops was when they were chasing him for drug posession.

Wow, just wow. What exactly is the point of a post like this? Do you need to post things like this to help you feel better about yourself?

now im curious too. I think the first reflex would be to help out and delay his getaway.... but seems like the type of thing where he would want retribution if he ever saw you on the streets again

If he's a soldier and getting busted for something, he's probably not getting off the base again any time soon. if he's not a soldier and getting busted by the police, there is probably a good chance he'll end up deported. Not a real likelihood of him seeing you on the street again.

I quite like your usual posts, and Mooseheads.

Right now, I like Mooseheads because I know he is a long time poster and utilizing sarcasm to the fullest effect. In the land of media/police/society freaking out against anything wrong foreigners do, what can we do but laugh at the irrational effects stemming from overacting?

You don't think it's quite conceivable that someone could complain about kimchi, get attacked by some idiot for insulting Korea, punch him out, and then run away fearing attempts to get blood money?

If Korea didn't have a mediaeval legal system I'd say that post was stupid but unfortunately it isn't inconceivable here.

I have never been in a place where that can conceivably happen. No.

Laughing Laughing thanks for making me laugh - while I was mostly kidding - when I made the post I did recall a few years ago an outing with a large group of educators - a post-Kotesol dinner - we were waiting at a restaurant for a table - and a K woman, middle aged, and I were chatting and she asked me if I liked kimchi. I said, no, actually I didn't. She became very quiet and her face was so serious. She expressed shock and amazement and inquired again, she was visibly upset that I had said this.

I will never forget how disturbed she was with my response. She wouldn't even speak to me again, just went into a sort of catatonic state.

so yes, if people were drinking, tempers were short, and words exchanged - I can see a fight breaking out over this subject. a shame really, but then some people just take some things too seriously. Shocked

Well I have trouble thinking of a bigger joke than the Korean legal system.
