Hey.. the wife and I are talking about going to Bali over winter vacation. For anyone who has been there what did you think? And what is the weather, etc like during December?

I'm trying to go too. While I haven't been, I read up on it many times. Since it's just 8 degree South of the Equator, the weather is fairly consistent year round though Bali has a diverse range of climates due to topography. Yes, it's been rumored there is snow and cold in tropical Bali if you climb up a mountain to the highland. It's said that it rains a little most days in Ubud and the highlands, but can be sunny on the south beach East of Denpasar and is a fairly consistent daily year round weather pattern. It's ultimate island vacation offering a full range of fun activities. It gets high reviews consistently year round. I also read June through August is high season for Australian tourists so it's more packed and active.

Check out the traditional musical dances like legong on Youtube as well as gamelan.

The weather is pretty consistent year-round. July- August is a bit cooler and drier, Dec - Jan is a bit warmer and wetter. But not a big difference, anytime is a good time to go.
Start in Kuta to see the beach scene then move up to Ubud and say "wow, good to be away from that beach scene". If you want to dive, there is a great wreck dive off the east coast. I spent a nice night in a terraced rice field area to the east-south-east with some stunning walks and great people (forgot the name of that area). There is a black sand beach on the north shore with fewer tourists than in Kuta. Or do some Island hopping and go see Lombok. Tons of choices; see Kuta, then Ubud then take off in the direction that suits you.

I went and I loved it! I got a massage right on the beach. Heaven!

I'll add something. Is 2 weeks enough for Bali? How long? As long as you can do?

Look into the Gili Islands (off Lombok). About an hour away by fast boat (or you can fly to Lombok I think). Had a much better time there than Kuta. If you're not 19, single or like thumping music 24/7 Kuta might be a not so great choice. Ubud is pretty awesome, though.

In my opinion 2 weeks is enough time if you just want beaches and Ubud for culture.
