So I've decided to renew with my school for a second year. I wanted to use my vacation days during the period between my contracts because of a family issue so I could have a month off instead of the usual 2 weeks. I've been told that it's possible but they want me to take that month off this summer...instead of AFTER my contract is over.

So they want me to take my renewal contract vacation before my contract is over...because my contract started during the school year so if I take the month off after my contract ends I'd be gone for a month during classes.

However...if I take if off during the summer ~ aren't I losing 3 extra weeks of paid vacation (after summer/camp...I don't have to be a desk warmer if I don't have classes...they let me stay at home.)

Is this even allowed? They're just switching around dates... >.<

Isn't the renewal vacation supposed to be the last two weeks of your contract?

I'm pretty sure it's the two weeks in between your old contract and your new one. So after your first contract is over and before your new contract begins. No?

At the GEPIK orientation last spring, I asked Dain Bae what happens if we want to take our vacation at the very end of our contract, but the school doesn't like it, or it falls during the regular school session. Dain said that in those cases the school is obliged to allow it, and GEPIK co-ordinators will intervene if you call on them.

Whether this holds true if you're trying to combine it with your re-signing break, I don't know.

it sounds to me like your school is being reasonable and wants to work with you.

typically, they don't want you not to be in school when school is in session, which is why they all want you to take your home trip when school is closed for summer or winter vacation.

I always thought that even the 2 week home trip should be taken during school vacations, even if you start, as I did, in the middle of the school semester.

I see how you're thinking this thru OP, but if I were you, I wouldn't complain about it. After all, the school is being nice enough not to force you to seatwarm when they're closed after your camp, so for you to press the issue, you may be risking your winter vacation - if I were the Korean principal and you pressed the issue, I'd make your butt come in every day of winter vacation that you had to.

Typically you're still paid even when not seatwarming in an empty school.

If I were you, I'd thank the school for their "understanding" and enjoy your 3 weeks off in winter and the other 2 come spring.

of course, were I in a long camp and seatwarming situation, I'd be jamming those 2 weeks down their throat whether they liked it or not.

you're not in one of those god forsaken situations. Smile and say thank you.

Oh I'm not complaining about it at all...I was just wondering if it was possible for them to change my contract dates around like that. Also it seemed kind of rushed seeing as they want me to fly home the day after Summer camp ends and come back the day before classes start.

I actually rechecked my contract....it says on there that you can't take those vacation days when school is in session so I would have to take them during summer or winter vacation anyways.

Thanks for all the help guys!! Really appreciate it ^^
