I have one of those wall-mounted air conditioning units (the 1' x 1' x 3' horizontal box) in my apartment, linked to a fan/cooler on the roof. I've found that it spits out small droplets of water when it runs - we're not talking rain, but enough to get a surface damp over time. It also drips a bit from the bottom of the vent.

I initially thought that this was just due to the high humidity - a cold stream of air will obviously condense water out - but it occurred to me that my unit might just need fixing. Does anyone know if a small amount of water dripping is normal for an air conditioner?

Sounds like a leaking joint in your machine.
The water should all leave in hose to a drain, so sounds like a dodgy joint.

↑ What he said.

Also, the pipe that drains the water away could be blocked. Another possibility is that the pipe is not "blocked" as such, but has been badly positioned or knocked out of position so that the water does not flow down the pipe, instead just sitting there in the pipe and creating a blockage.

Agree with the posters above. But my new A/C leaked out the bottom. Installers came back to check if it was level and if there was blockage. Wasn't. So a guy from Samsung came. The tray/trough that collects the water (runs along the bottom) to the drain pipe was damaged from the factory. So he fixed it temporarily with a glue gun. Few days later put a new tray/trough in it. Didn't leak with the glue gun fix or new part.
But I'll say there was no spraying. Just water dripping then running out the bottom.
My school had one that sprayed and leaked last year. But this year it doesn't. Glad it isn't in my room. But that teacher sets it at 24, and mine is at 18.

Stupid question I know but have you tried cleaning the inside of your air conditioner to get ride of any algae that may have built up.

Our brand new Hauzen started dumping water out a few weeks ago. Turns out the install guy forgot to remove the plug inside so the water could run out. Rolling Eyes

It has a water tray inside, as mentioned above, with a plug on either end of it. Depending on which side you want the hose to come out of it, they are supposed to remove the plug.

If yours is older, I bet it's blocked or something... probably dirty.

I cleaned the filters and vanes the other day (not too dirty, so it may be the drain pipe) - if it shows the same behaviour when I need to start running it, I'll arrange to have someone look at it.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. Smile

Last year the same thing happened to the aircon in my last apartment and I was able to solve the problem by spraying it with some bleach and then letting it run with all my windows open for an hour while I left my apartment.
