I'm sure this has been asked before, but Dave's search function is being wonky again.

Is there a way I can set up a paypal account in Korea using my Korean bank account? I just tried to set it up, but apparently, my ARC number is not the same as the National I.D. (oh well!)

I know the second option is to use the corporate tax number, but I'm not sure what that is, exactly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! (as usual).

Thanks! Very Happy

Hello! There have been a few threads on this but I'll answer your question.

Unfortunately, you cannot set up a Korean paypal account of you do not having a Korean national ID number (not the same as your ARC, as you already stated). I tried about 6 months ago and after several attempts to try and make my ARC number work I called paypal. They explained that you must be a Korean national.

Bummer, because that would make transferring funds to/from Korea MUCH more convenient and a whole lot cheaper.

Do you still have an account back home?
I've still got my Canadian account which I keep a few bucks in and use my Canadian paypal no problem.
I had verified the account before I left. I won't use it to buy anything on ebay since they ship to verified addresses, but its great for steam, or other online purchases like that.

My friend who is a Korean national (and has a green card) lives in Seoul now. He has banking problems like everyone else on this board with Korean banks refusing to issue an international debit card (he grew up in Gangnam!).

He set up a paypal account (in the US) and then transfers from his Korean bank --> paypal --> American bank. Or he uses the paypal debit card to pay bills in the U.S. Not sure if that's how it works exactly, and what the fees are, but it's worth a try, since the paypal transfers from the Korean bank go as "ACH debits" they go through with no hassle (as opposed to a wire transfer).
