I'm at a public school, and I teach 3rd through 6th grade. I have no problem teaching those classes, and I absolutely enjoy them!
That said, however, I have one extracurricular class with 5 students.
The way this extracurricular class was explained to me, was that it is supposed to be a "English songs" class, but my co-teacher who taught this class before thinks the English gap is too high between the students.
My first class was last week, and all we did was play a few games of Twister and bowl. It was so boring and was basically a terrible class.
All of my games and ideas are for very large groups of students (I have 30-36 students for each of my regular classes).
Does anyone know of any games or activities I can try with 5 students that would be fun and interactive?
I thought about playing a game like Password, where I would make two teams and have one student act as the moderator. One member of each team would get a word (the password) that they would then try to get the other member to guess. But how long could we play that game?
My sister who started class recommended getting them to write in a journal, and we'd go over that everyday. I don't know though.
Any ideas, hints, stories of dealing with small classes would be so helpful for me! And songs too would be wonderful, because if they're singing, they're practicing their English.
Thank you in advance!
Their ages are 4th grade and I think one 5th grader. |
