Hi.

I live out in the sticks in SW Suwon (Omokcheon-dong) by Suwon's Women College and after getting a Macbook a few weeks ago, I'm ready to get internet services for my apartment.

What options are available? I here that getting the internet can be spendy, but it would be worth it to me. I get tired of the smoky PC cafes or always trying to hunt down a wifi spot.

I have my E-2 visa and my medical checkup. I'm getting ready to apply for my ARC at immigration.

Any advice would be helpful.

You have 2 options. You can ask your school get you connected to a internet service so you'll have access to your local or major providers. KTF/KT or LG POWER COMM is good. They'll run you around 25-35k won per month. Depending on what kind of service you get. like just internet/TV (cable tv)or internet/iptv (internet tv) or just internet will cost you differently. If you're going to try to get it on your own, you'll be stuck with limited service providers. I believe only SK takes foreign subscribers.

Wrong, KT and LG both allow foreigners to subscribe. I've been with KT in my own name for over 4 years now.

LG would also allow it as I almost switched before they told me my building was too far from the main line to get the highest service they offered. I would have been stuck with the 2nd tier speeds, a no go for me.

Realistically, if you're new in the country and have limited Korean skills, it's going to have to be set up by your employer or random Korean friend willing to help you out. It will just be 10 times easier for them to do it and put it in their name than for you to try to do it yourself.

Yeah, I was just thinking that I might be saving myself the headache and asking my director to help me out (she had to for me to get my cell phone).

I set up the internet by myself in the first few weeks of comming to Korea. I'm with SK broadband and just rang them and asked for an English ringback, simple.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. I'm moving to a new place and considering KT and LG. But, I think we will only be getting internet. Probably going to go with LG since it's much cheaper.

Is anyone using LG as an internet provider? If so... how is the internet service in regards to speed and reliability. I will be starting a new job, so I won't have time to use the net other than downloading shows for the weekend and surfing the net.

If you want KT, just give their English line a call. They'll set everything up.
