I saw the bullet train going by today while riding by Cheonan station-to-be. It was dirty. |

Yea. It was so sleek, so phallic. I nearly crashed into a truck because I was mesmerized by its length and girth. |

Yeah, it's been occasionally running down here in Busan for the past several weeks, although the track between Busan and Daegu still hasn't been completed.
I live in the 8th floor of an apartment that looks over the old tracks (and site of the new tracks). It's amazing how little has been done.
10+ months since I've been here, and stacks of metal tubing has been just sitting there the entire time..... |

Hah, I heard from a local that the stretch from Seoul to Cheonan is supposed to be ready by April. What, April 2010?
It'd be nice to come back to Korea and have Cheonan well-connected; I'd consider stationing myself here again. Let's go, train dudes! |

I saw a subway map the other day that listed several stations on the end of line 1 stretching all the way through Songtan to Cheonan. It was a dotted line and I couldn't figure out whether that meant under construction or proposed. |

Yea, I heard about that last week from my boss. The subway is going to run all the way down to Cheonan. It'll only take an hour, supposedly. I doubt that...but it'd be nice.
My boss also confirmed the rumors that the capital would be moving down around this area. There has been a crazy boom to make Cheonan look nicer since I first came here... |

I heard 2-2/2 hours on the subway from Cheonan. That seems pretty reasonable, since it takes an hour from Suwon to downtown Seoul already. I'd been talking about that with some friends and we all think that no one will ride it to Seoul unless they are really desperate. Maybe they'll start raising train and bus rates or something...but when it only costs 3,800 for an hour bus ride, why would you ride the subway?
The bullet train will be open this April. For those that don't know, Korea had a contract with a French company to build the trains, but the company went bankrupt and did not return any of the billions of won Korea had already paid. It was supposed to be open for the World Cup, and wasn't because of this.
