I just had my first interview with GEPIK for a middle school in Ansan.

I was wondering if it was common for people to get the school that they interview with the first time.

Since you dont interview with "GEPIK" first, you talk directly with the school..do you have to do a lot of interviews?

How did you get an interview? Did you apply through a recruiter?

I interviewed with 2 GEPIK middle schools in Ansan, both not the best. One fired me for the previous teacher's mental handicapp and rampant African-Americanism, its in the FIRED topic. The other told me "the students have behavioral problems and are extremely low level, do you even still want to work here"... 0 for 2 so far in Ansan

i had two absolutely ridiculous gepik interviews. first, the recruiter screwed up when she told me the interview time - i was sleeping when they called and they said i didn't sound "friendly" enough. whatever. the second time, the recruiter called around 10:30 pm and said a school might call me within the hour, or they might call at the same time the next day. last minute inconvenience aside, it was just really hard to understand them. eventually went with an epik job.

Ironically, I had TWO great interviews with GEPIK- the frist was in a school in Goyang, but it was RECRUITER who pulled my application because HE didnt like the principal... of course, he neglects to tell me this... Rolling Eyes

and the second went FABULOUS! me and the coteacher talked well together, she only cautioned me re: how the students wouldnt be as good with English as my old hagwon kids, and that I could come at month's start....

how that ended..... well, it's the stuff of legend on here, so I won't bore you. But long story short, I COULD have repplied to some other school, as the VP said she'd give me a recommendation to start frest somewhere else, but I walked away completely from GEPIK.... whether that was smart or not remains to be seen. wish me luck! Wink

My school did not even bother to interview me. Maybe they were worried I would ask questions about the last teacher (who pulled a runner).

Were these telephone or in person interviews? I didn't realize the school called you - thought it was Gepik that called and they assigned you after you were in Korea.

Probably depends on how the position was found in the first place.... I won't speak re: GEPIK itself, but the recruiter set up phone calls from the English teachers at the school.... both phone calls went very well and I had both the jobs- the first one the Recruiter sabotaged, and then.... well, like I said, things just went downhill once she showed her teeth.

on a related note, is downloading movies and tv at school frowned upon? 'cuz my coteacher did that..... saw an ep. of "Greys Anatomy" downloading as we talked..... hopefully she didnt have to wonder why I asked her to call me "Dr McDreamy" from then on... Wink
