As the title suggests, I want to go to Japan. As I don't know my vacation time, and it will be peak season in August, does anyone have info regarding how late one can book the ferry and still get a seat? I know it's booked out in advance for Chuseok, I hope summer is not the same. |

I went in early April and was told they've decreased the number of crossings now to maybe 2 a day- due to the depressed economy - don't know if it's still like that or not.
best to try and pin down a date from your employer asap so you can book. |

Depends on the ferry service? There are other ferry services to different ports. However, 4-6 weeks would be a safe bet. I would keep the option of flying open as well. |

I was in Gyeongju on the 4th week of July. At the tourist info kiosk
at the Express Bus Terminal, I asked about ferry service from Busan
to Japan. I could get a ferry from Busan to Fukokah, Shiminoeski, or
Osaka. I chose Shiminoeski (4 hours from Hiroshima). I chose my dates,
and it was a week away. The clerk asked if I wanted a return date. OK,
fine, that fits in with the JPR, Japan Rail Pass (7 days minimum). No fee,
I paid for the ticket a week later in person at the ferry terminal in Busan.
Too easy! DM |

just walk up there and buy it a few minutes before the ferry leaves. its never full. Kinda like the KTX. In fact walking into Seoul Station, buying a ticket for 10 minutes later on the KTX, taking the KTX down to Busan and then walking over to the ferry terminal to get a ticket for 30 mins later or so is the most hassle-free International travel I've ever done. Oh, except for crossing the border into Mexico for 25 cents... |
