Microsquish Office didn't come with the computer I bought, and I need it to open my word docs. Checked the Best Buy store (here in the states), found out it costs $279! Ouch! Was expecting to pay $40.

| Or you could get open office. I haven't used it but people speak highly of it. That way you wouldn't have to lay awake at night suffering over the way you victimized MS... |

Head down to Yongsan in Seoul and head toward the electronics district. In the long tunnel the leads under the highway toward your destination is two guys who sell "slightly cheaper" software.
Ask for office...half the price...if not less... |

If you just need top open them, the viewer is free. I don't think this is likely so I would recommend Open Office, though there will be formatting issues for your old documents. But for new documents, you can't go wrong with Open Office.
Alternatively, for quick documents, I use Google Docs. That way you can edit what you are doing anywhere with an internet connection. |

| You can buy the Korean "student" version for about 70,000 won around Korea. Maybe at Homeplus, if they still have it. If you'd rather work in English, you can get the Student version in the USA for around or under $100. |

If you have a .edu e-mail address, you can normally get a huge discount.
Last year, I got Office Ultimate 2007 for $60. For me it was more than I'll ever use, but it's not pirated and has a product key.
I don't think they're too picky about the "current stundent" issue.

There are minor compatibility issues if you're trying to switch back and forth or edit M$ files, but if you just need to read M$ files it will be absolutely fine.
If you simply must have M$, listen to this man:

Open Office is a good alternative if you dont need Access.
Also, ThinkFree is Microsoft compatible and only $49.

I've used their online version for a while and it works fine. Download the trial for free to check it out. |
