Today during my first class (boys middle school) the school disciplinarian and his henchman/sidekick were on haircut inspection. The disciplinarian walked into class (with a list) and patrolled the aisles... every boy who's hair he found to be 'unsatisfactory' (12 out of 36) was sent out into the hall to see the 'sidekick', made to get on his palms and the balls of his feet, and stick his butt in the air to receive three (really good) whacks with the 'love stick' ... Oooooow! Laughing

Hahaha, yeah, that happened in one of my classes last week. I had no idea what was going on until my coteacher came by and explained it to me. It was an amusing experience, to say the least. I wonder how often they do it... I wouldn't mind the diversion every couple months. Twisted Evil

It seems to happen twice a year here - immediately following final exams for the terms.

There's just something wrong with smacking a guy in the butt with your 'love stick', sorry.

The worst part about this is that Korea's supreme court (IIRC, back in 2005) ruled that public schools cannot regulate the students' hair length.

Well, just because the teacher was placed there by EPIK/GEPIK/SMOE doesn't necessarily mean it's a public school.

About a third of boys in my classes were shamed with new buzz cuts in February. My head teacher said that parents trust the hagwon teachers to pass judgment on what's best for the kids, and apparently hair longer than 1.5 inches is distracting (though only for boys, not girls!).
I didn't usually make them take off their hats when they were too embarrassed, though.

The diciplinarian (Adolf) at my MS stands at the school gates every morning inspecting hair length (girls and boys), skirt length and general apperance. He appears to get a great deal of job satisfaction. Mind you, it's a shame that he doesnt deal with behaviours like running in the halls.

Those boys with the ch...ch...ch... chia haircuts are pathetic.

What if the teacher has long hair?

Behavior they don't care about. Korea is all about appearances.

Wait. The school is a mess, students throw trash everyone and no one cares. I don't know what the deal is.
