I keep reading that there is always a danger that a North Korean soldier will try to drag or kidnap ROK/US soldiers into the North (at border points). At the DMZ, U.S soldiers have to hold onto each others arms when they're in those joint conference rooms because a Nork might drag them into the north.

Why would the North want to do that? especially at the dmz or other areas along the borders?

What do they gain from it?

Also, how prevalent are north korean spies in south korea? How did they get into the country?

Whether it's a myth or not, have you considered the idea of leverage or a ransom. If the scenerio of big wigs sitting in a room discussing whatever is true, the lunatics from above may be thinking there may be very important, high ranking S.K./U.S. military personel in said meetings.

Nothing says 'juicey ransom' like a high ranking military officer who is the son or daughter of an American senator or other important 'saram'.

LOL! Yes. The US military is world renown for paying big ransoms.
And that little gift box they use is a really nice touch, too.
