Alfred Hitchcocks boyhood friend was beat up at school and he came home the first day and his father told not to fight. He came home again beat up and his father repeated what he said but this time, Hitchcocks friend said, but dad, they call me a dirty Jew. Then the boys dad said you tell your friends Jesus Christ was a Jew. So the boy came home again; more beat up than ever and his dad said, what happened, son? I told you what to do, then the boy said, I would have said what you told me but I forget the gentlemens name.

From a Dick Cavet show.

Horrorible as in you understood the punchline? If so, please fill me in.

Me too.

I may have transcribed it poorly.

Cavet commented something to the effect " only you , Alfred , could tell this joke."

Do you understand who the "gentlemen" is?

By the way, was Hitchcock Jewish?

Theme, your killing me. The gentleman was JC, buy the dialog in your joke. Hitchcock sounds very EnglishEEE to me, but who knows.

My guess is that Hitchcock was so logical, that he could not tell a joke with a normal humorous punchline. Like a nerd trying to play baseball.
