I tried the search function, but it's impossibly slow. I'm sure this has been addressed before, but...

Recently, I was asked to perform a church wedding for an American and an Indian here in Korea.

This would be my first wedding I've done here in Korea. The couple isn't sure the steps they have to take to legitimize their marriage in their homelands, as well as Korea.

We have another Indian lady who works for the Indian embassy and is going to check into things for the future bride. I'm going to try and contact the American embassy on my part...

Meanwhile, does anyone know the proper procedure for 2 foreigners to get married in Korea?

Also, while I've done many wedding in the States, and just fill out my church body, church, personal credentials on the wedding certificate, is there a special process I have to do here in Korea as the officiant?

Thanks for any information you can offer!

Also, if you know of anyone who wishes to have a church wedding in English here in Korea, rather than the typical wedding hall/Korean style, feel free to contact me.

Peace!

The church wedding has no legal standing in Korea. They still need to register their marriage at a gu office. Foreigners often use the Jongro Gu office in Seoul, because they are more used to dealing with them. They probably also want to register their marriage with their own embassies.

For marriages contracted in the Republic of Korea, "church weddings" have no legal effect. There is only one type of marriage here: civil marriage contracted at city/gu/dong hall. For marriages involving a foreigner, the appropriate embassy will provide affidavits to assist the happy couple with the process. As there are two foreigners involved in this case, they need to contact both the American Embassy and the Indian Embassy/Consulate.

Here is the information from the American Embassy.

Here is the information from the Indian Embassy. Marriage is not specifically mentioned there so I suggest you call the Consular Services office between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at 02) 798-4257 or 02) 798-4268.

Thanks for the info!!

They still want a church wedding, but I guess in the eyes of Korea, the "legitimate" wedding will be the civil one.

Peace!
