|
|
I am in the market for a gaming notebook. I need to buy it in Korea and it has to have an English OS. I am open to all manufacturers but I would like a laptop that looks sleek.
I will be using it to play Warhammer, WOW, and the new DCUniverse.
My budget is 2million won.
I would like this to be portable so 5 pounds and under would be great.
Any ideas?
I'm guessing I would have to go to Yongsan, Ipark, to get this. Unless you know of a company that would deliver without getting hit with import fees.
Thanks! |

Can you install English Windows yourself?
Are you happy to download English software?
There are many great choices of laptop at around 2,000,000, it's just going to be awkward to buy it in Korea and have all the software in English.
I've heard Dell Korea do such a service, but I'm not sure to what extent they offer all pre-installed software in English.
If it was me, I'd be wiping the hard drive clean anyway. Then doing a clean install of Vista x64 (or the new Windows 7 x64 if you prefer).
You laptop, and games, will run much better. Store bought machines come with huge amounts of useless software pre-installed. You don't want any of that stuff. |

Thanks for the tip about the clean install.
I have a Dell inspiron 1520 but I'm ready for something new. I think buying it here would be the way to go because I don't want to be hit with all the taxes, shipping costs and who knows what else.
So if you're gaming on a laptop please tell me about your rig and what you like and dislike about it. |

DellKorea offers English OS.
Mine broke down after 1.5 years, but was satisfied with it for 1 year, 5 months and a few days. |

The exchange rate makes apple products expensive here in Korea. But if your looking for a sleek and portable laptop, macbooks are hard to beat. You could install XP, Vista, or 7 on Bootcamp to play your games.

Might be out of your price range. But they are pretty swank laptops. If your a Korean Public School teacher your able to get the educational discount from what I hear on these forums. |

I brought my Dell m1710 with me from Canada. Had it about 2.5 years now.. I'm just waiting for a new vid card on warranty, it started blue screening and it turns out the memory is sketchy on it. Dell Korea is waiting for the part and they're going to send someone out.
If you want a good gaming notebook, its not going to happen under 5 lbs. Unless its got a tiny screen.
Gaming laptops are usually made with bigger screens, bigger hard drives, and a little more rigid structure to them (more metal than cheaper ones).
Its a serious trooper. I can play pretty much anything on it.
Neverwinter Nights 2
GTA IV
Arma 2
Crysis
Not all the games play at top settings but even GTA IV which has been a bugger for performance is playable at decent settings.
However its around 10 lbs. Its got a 17 inch screen though which is nice.
Dell Korea doesn't sell the XPS m series, which is a shame. The only true gaming notebook they have is the alienware one at 3 million won.
If I wanted another gaming notebook I'd probably get the alienware one, it has SLI graphics cards in it. You'll get serious performance out of it..but its ugly. If I can wait to go home, I'd try to arrange to have the new M1730 arrive while I was there. SLI and not as ugly. |

That sparq looks pretty good. What OS did you install? Where did you get it from? |
