Hello all

I'm looking for a good electronic drum set and haven't found anything in Busan. Does anyone know of a large musical instrument store or zone in Seoul?

I find the good stores are sometimes hard to find.

Might I suggest you look up some drum sets you are interested in. Then, on the manufacturer's website, check for a list of dealers. That's how I have found a lot of places I wouldn't have known about in Seoul. Sometimes there is only 1 dealer for the whole country.

there's a great place in Seoul to buy musical instruments, right next to Insadong. If you go right to the end of Insadong street (going towards Jongno-3-ga,) you'll see a road that goes back on a strange angle, and you'll see a large store. There are always big movie posters on the side of the building. The road actually goes under this store, as there is no first floor. Just go up the stairs and you'll find a huge floor with a bunch of small music stores, and you should be able to find what you're looking for. If not, go back down the stairs (on the right hand side of the street); go up the alley there and you'll find some more small stores scattered around. Happy shopping!

Purrrfect is bang on. It's called Nakwon. You will see guitar shops on the ground floor, but you want the second or third floor...I think the third. Jonmgno-samga - exit #13 or #5. Sorry...can't recall which because I haven't been there in a while. Look at the area map in the subway and it will say Nakwon and the corresponding exit number.

I picked up a great set right here on this forum Ken!! Yep. eslcafe Buy/Sell/Trade Forum. I got lucky. Yamaha DT Express II for 1,000,000won.
I'll look around for you as well and send a message when I hear of something worthwhile.
The 'new' price will be around 1.7million but they are great. Play along with cd's, cassette, vinyl, mp3 players, computer, midi for virtual jams, or by yourself...amazing. Simply amazing. Worth every cent new or used. Very compact, user friendly and very quiet. You will think you're playing live; your neighbours will think you are dead!!

I might be able to find you something used for a decent price. pm me if you like.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. And yes, Harvard, please do let me know if you know of something specific. I'm looking for an electronic drum set for those very reasons -- quiet, portability-- and I'll check out the Yamaha this weekend.

Hey if i were you i'd try and get a roland kit. I have a Roland TD-6 back home (the best one is the TD-10 which is virtually the real thing). Its a bit more expensive but worth it. I have a Yamaha TDXpress here and i prefer the feel of it but the sounds and the brain of the TD-6 is far better and easier to use.

I was at the music centre in Insadong this weekend. It's great; two stories jammed with every type of candy. Thanks for the directions.

I also did prefer the Roland TD-6, although the Yamaha was very good. The Roland looks a little more like a drum set and is simpler to use. I was quoted 1.6 MW. Maybe this spring, or if I could find a used one.

Hey if you do get a TD-6 see if you can get the free years or 3 years warenity.

Also see if you can get the TD-8 Cymbols with it because the TD-6 ones suck and break easily.

Hope this helps

I just noticed today that there is now a Roland TD-20 and a new hi-hat (now as two cymbals like an actual hi-hat)...so I guess I won't be buying the extension card for my TD-10. Roland is definitely the best way to go if you don't mind the extra cash. I have a V-Custom set, but with a studio apartment I don't have much room to walk. I would recommend the V-Stage set if space is an issue, since the drums still have mesh heads (quieter than rubber), and it's easier to transport.

Go to the Cosmos store in Nakwon Arcade (subway stop Chongro 3-ga)on the third floor (there's also a branch on the second floor), it's Roland's official dealer here. Make sure you check the price on the internet...I got an incredible deal there.

And, if anyone reading this is by chance looking to buy a PD-7 or PD-9 pad, send me a PM - I've got some for sale.
