I just connected my Korean chipped Wii to the internet for the first time. It asked if I wanted to perform a Wii system update. What's the procedure with this? I read in some places that it's only a problem if you update from a game disk, but I would like an answer specifically for Korean Wii's. My current firmware is 3.2U.

From what I've read, Don't! If your on 3.2 you've got the right firmware for homebrew. Updating will just break your mod. What you should do is either get a SD card and download the latest IOS (wii homebrew file) files to update your mod-ware. They include a program called star...something that blocks disks from updating your firmware. Otherwise, you'll need to make an ISO of every Korean or other region disk you want to play and run it through a program called Brickblocker, before burning it to a new disk.

Yeah I guessed it wasn't worth trying it. I just wanted to check out what you could do with an internet connection, like seeing the different channels or whatever else is available. Anyway, all my copied games work so it's not worth the risk just to check that out.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but just wanted to ask a quick question. You have a modded Korean Wii, so you can play English games on it no problem, yeah? How much did it cost for the Wii plus Mod. I'm guessing you can get it done at Yongsan. I'm interesting in getting a modded Wii while here because I don't care about connecting it to the internet.

Is there a thread for this kind of thing already? Had a look, but didn't see anything.

There has been a work around for a while now. You can still have the HBC and all relevant hacks even if your firmware is 4.0. There are programs to revert. Some of the new games need 4.0 (example punch out)

you are full of $hit Cool

unless you updated the ios's on your system through the HBC before hand
(using Neogamma 002 fix)

IOS60 is the IOS that System Menu 4 uses, no game would ever need that. Punch Out checks for a missing IOS file on insert, which is IOS60, present in the 4.0 update. Therefore, they couldn't even run the game from the disc channel if theyre missing the IOS60, cioscorp or not. Punchout needs IOS 33, 35, and 55. Having those cIOSs installed, and running the game thru a backup launcher channel or usb loader will enable you to play them.

For the OP (Sapa) your np is misleading. It takes a bit of work, maybe not for you, but for him yes.

Are you using a backup loader channel to play the game?

Heck, he could update to 4.0 using Waninkoko's Firmware Updater for 4.0.. that way he has all the ios. Not really difficult, but prolly is for him.

I'm running it off of a USB HDD. (USBloader GX)

It's a great site. Check out the forums for everything there is to know about messing with the Wii.

That makes sense, as you don't need IOS 60 if you are using USBloader.

but if the op wants to play the game, by downloading it, burning it, and playing it on a dvd he will not be able to without upgrading to 4.0.

@crossmr.. I think you should be able to get it for 250,000 if you look around. Mine is an american wii, so not sure which shop is best.

250,000 is decent. We really need to put together a much better buying guide for certain electronics, with shop names, maps, etc as it would be really helpful.
If you can get a good price somewhere we should have a better way of sharing it than saying "Go walk around the monstrosity that is yongsan"
Very Happy
