I am married to a Korean, have been in Korea for almost ten years, have an E2 teaching visa, and am wondering about changing to the new F visa. I have no idea which one I would get - F1 F2 etc or what it would mean to have one.

Has anyone here done it already?

What are the benefits, if any? What do you advise?

There have been some threads about the F2-1 visa.

Basically the benefits are not being required to leave the country to get permission to work somewhere, and you do not need a letter of release to quit a job.

I have an F-2-1 visa and it's great. The process was not simple when I got mine..but if you send me a private message..I can clearly explain all the benefits.

I got my F2-1 visa last November and it was pretty painless. Here are some threads from the FAQs about F2 visas.

F2 Visas

1. Getting an F2 Visa
2. F-2-1 Visa
3. Got my F-2-1 today, so...
4. Working with an F2 Visa Note: This thread is actually about something else, but scroll down to Alex Buffa's post for specific information.
5. Do I Need 30 Million to get an F2 Visa?

Thanks for the info and the link to the threads. Looks like a change to F2 status is on the cards. I need the time to work for myself - what I mean is, I need to get some kinda business sorted out - this 2 million won a month no matter how qualified you are at teaching is a waste of time. So, a bit of part-time on F2 and ruminating is in order ...

Got the documents together, went there, waited for ages, and now it is in the process.

I got the documents sorted as per the lists given above. I didn't need my marriae cert notarising by the Embassy as I got married in the UK. It only needs notarising if you get married in Korea (you'd have thought it would be the other way around).

Someone saaid it costs W80,000 total but they only charged my W50,000. The multiple entry visa is free for UK citizens. Perhaps it was cheaper because I didn't give them a work contract - at the moment I am in limbo - waiting to see what my school gives me. I think they are waiting for the last minute sos they think I will have no choice but to accept what they give me but, little do they know, I'll soon have my F visa and will be able to walk ... and not have to leave the country.
