Hi all
This is a question for old timers/people with actual knowledge....
So my visa is up for renewal quite soon and I have about 5 months left on my passport. Will immi renew my visa with such a small time left on passport, as it's less than the length of the new visa? Can I then in 5 months renew my passport and then go to immi to transfer the E2 to the new passport?
Or will I need to renew my passport first and then go to immi for the new visa?
It's all quite complicated as I'm going home real soon, and not sure there is time for a new passport to be issued and a trip to immi before I go.
Thanks in advance. |

Ok, here it goes.
My passport finished in May. Signed new contract in January for March start. Went to immigration and they said they would do it but I would have to come back again in May or June to pay 60,000 won for a new multiple re-entry permit anyways and change the visa stamp from 1 to the other.
So, in Jan. I got all the photos and paperwork for my new passport, went in, paid through the teeth for a new passport, waited 3 weeks, picked it up, went to immigration the next day, handed in all my documents regarding the new contract, plus the $$ for the new multiple re-entry permit, waited about 15 min. and was done.
So, all in all, about 4 weeks work gathering documents, photos, travelling to embassy, immigration. So, yes, if you NEED to get the new visa stamp in now, you could I guess, but remember to get it changed again when you get your new passport. IF you have enough time, get that shit together and go to the embassy on Monday. (call today and get an appointment). Good luck. |
