It is vacation season and beach season as well. I will not travel out of Korea this summer but plan on soaking in some sun and sitting on the beach. My girlfriend wants to go to Kwangju for a few days to see a friend. After that, What is a good west coast beach to go to? Or, Southwest coast beach? I think the last stop on the train is Mokpo.
I'm not sure what the beach scene is like on the west/southwest but I did go to Gangwondo last weekend and the east coast is really nice. We went to Gangpodae and had fun laying on the beach, renting tubes, and eating good seafood. It was cheap enough and the northeast is clean and more natural. Ofcourse I've been to Haeundae (Busan) which is what it is. |

Take a bus from Mokpo to Wando then from there a local bus or taxi to Myeong-sa-shim-ni, on an island via a bridge next to Wando.
Myeongsashimni has been totally developed in the last few years. A 1.3+ km long beautiful beach great for swimming and beach fun with a boardwalk and straw umbrellas and camping area, and footshowers and even lockers, plenty of toilets, restaurants, all modern facilities. Cleaned up daily too, unlike in '03 when it was a bit neglected though still nice.
It is a picturesque A-quality beach. You will not regret it. |
